Contemplative Career Counseling:

Using Design Thinking with Mindful Awareness

to help students direct their lives in the way

that they want.

Where am I going?

What courses should I take?

What do I want to be when I grow up?

While it is normal to have these questions, more often than not, trying to figure out the answers can be frustrating and even stressful.

Mindful awareness and contemplative practices can support the cultivation of self-awareness and aid in the exploration and understanding of thoughts and emotions as well as fostering the ability to tolerate ambiguity, deal with confusion and be okay with ‘not knowing.’

We recognize the importance of inner knowledge and offer practical, contemplative exercises to support its cultivation. Through developing connection with our inner experience and the natural intelligence of the body, heart and mind, we can learn how to access a different way of knowing that can help us on our path of determining who we are and who we want to be.

In our workshops, we combine concrete activities from Designing Your Life - a successful course taught in Stanford University’s Design Lab - with contemplative practices. Through these combined approaches, participants will gain practical tools to help access their inner compass and cultivate their ability to listen to themselves – both of which can support healthy decision making. When we honour inner knowledge and take intentional steps towards accessing it we can begin, sooner rather than later, to direct our life in the way that we want.
